Today/Tonight we taped an episode of the best shorts at Jay-Z’s club in NYC and it was so much fun to be outside of the studio. We did person on the street and interior shots, as well as announced the finalist filmmakers for our show. Out of the 6 finalists that we announced, one will win $20k and the other will win $10k.

Unfortunately my short Stranded doesn’t qualify because I am the host, but wouldn’t that be sweet? No complaints though mamis and papis b/c I have a pretty good life going, and the money is coming. It’s out there in vibrational escrow, now I just have to manifest it.

Shout out to Cassidy Arkin who stepped in a directed a segment– it was fun working with you again Cass! Cassidy and I go back– we first met when I was a VJ on Source Magazine’s TV Show– Source: All Access. It was also very cool that my brother, sister, friend Kristal and women’s group sister Julie were there in support. (Especially since I am AWFUL at inviting people anywhere and if I do, it is usually the same day…)

I learned a valuable personal lesson at the event. A person attended who strangely sees us (me & him) as rivals. This is impossible because we are only ever in competition with ourselves. You cannot lose your good to someone else. This is impossible.

Anywhoo, I went into my old pleaser mode and not only wanted this person to like me, but I wanted to reassure him that we’re both on the same side and that I wish him only the best.

HELLO ABIOLA– that is not my job to make someone else feel whole. DUH. I sat on the floor in my very cute orange gown to speak with him and prove that it was all good and that I was still down to earth. When said insecure dude’s friends kind of heckled me as I was speaking, I felt like SH*T. This dude actually said that I had a novel deal because “it’s easier for women. ” Yeah. I guess that all of my hard work over the past 10 years had nothing to do with it. Whatever.

The lesson? (Again) We have nothing to prove to anyone. In addition, I allow him to be him and have his own opinions. Everyone does not have to like me. In fact, many people won’t but it’s all gravy because many people do. Life is beautiful. And so am I. And so are YOU. And I wish him well.
