It’s exciting for me to share this post from a natural skin care maven. This year I’ve used mostly natural beauty products found in your grocery store or pantry. Posts coming soon about olive oil, coconut oil and more! It’s a healthy, refreshing feeling to know that you’re using skin care products that have all-natural ingredients… -aa

Hey Sacred Bombshell,

It’s a healthy, refreshing feeling to know that you’re using skin care products that have all-natural ingredients. This is because there is no question about what you’re putting on your skin versus the usual chemical-processed products that you find in department and convenience stores. It’s rewarding to whip up a concoction of your own using only the ingredients in your kitchen cabinets.

  • Once you learn the power behind the natural ingredients you’re using and how each ingredient has different properties, you’ll see that homemade products work the same, if not better than the store-bought ones. For people that suffer from sensitive skin, people who want a “greener” lifestyle, and for those that are concerned about animal testing issues, a natural product is the way to go.

You’ll Save Money

One of the greater advantages to making an at-home product is that your money will stay in your wallet. One of the reasons store products are so pricey is because of the packaging. It’s disappointing to think that your money isn’t buying what’s in the bottle and rather the packaging that it’s distributed in.

Possibilities are Endless

With a few simple, natural ingredients, you can pretty much put together any type of facial product.  Facials are a great way to get glowing, healthy skin, but can be pretty costly when done professionally at the spa. Luckily there are plenty of ways to make them right in the comfort of your own home.

Something for Everyone

No matter what your skin type, this recipe works great with just about any skin tone to rejuvenate, reverse and repair skin damage.

Wake Up Your Inner Goddess! DIY Natural Skin CareHow to DIY: A Papaya Mask

Papaya contains enzymes that heal skin. Using it as a mask twice a week, papaya exfoliates, smoothes, moisturizes, reduces age spots and blemishes, and fixes and brightens dull, damaged skin. To make the mask, cut a papaya in half and remove all the seeds inside. Massage the inside of the papaya onto your skin, letting it sit for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Honey Mask Recipe

You can also make  another mask out of sour cream, honey and apple cider vinegar.

Exfoliating Masks

If you thought the only place you could get a good exfoliating product was at the spa, then you haven’t yet realized the power of natural ingredients.

Oatmeal Exfoliating Scrub Recipe

Add a teaspoon of both honey and olive oil to cooked oatmeal to create a thick paste. This will form a scrub that you massage into your skin. The oatmeal will slough away dead skin cells and the honey and oil will leave skin moisturized.

Skin-Moisturizing Masks

Avocado Recipe for Damaged Skin

Avocado is yet another food that can be turned into an at-home beauty product. Avocado will moisturize and repair damaged skin. Rub the inside of the avocado peel into your skin, and let it sit for 15 minutes. A fennel, oatmeal, and honey mask can restore moisture to the skin as well. After boiling fennel seeds in water, strain out the seeds and mix the fennel liquid with ground oatmeal and honey and leave on for 20 minutes or so.

For Other Skin Types

Yogurt Mask Recipe

To get firmer skin, mix plain yogurt and lemon juice. It will also fade age-spots, even out skin tone and help with acne. You can use this mask a few times a week for up to 30 minutes, and it works well for those with oily or acne-prone skin types. On the other hand if you have dry skin, you should make a moisturizing mask with honey and apple cider vinegar.

Honey is a humectant and a natural-acting antibiotic. Its properties moisturize and heal. Apple cider vinegar calms irritated skin and evens out the pH level.

Toning Skin

In addition to exfoliating, cleansing, and moisturizing – it’s important to tone as well. Toning relaxes, refreshes, and gives energy to skin.

Teas for Toning

Brew chamomile or green tea and set aside to cool. Once cooled, dip a few cotton balls in the tea, then squeeze out excess liquid and place on your eyes. Do this for about 15 minutes each day. Using chamomile or green tea is a great natural substitute for an alcohol-free toner that will clean and tighten pores.

With a quick trip to your grocery store and your shopping list, just a few simple ingredients can turn into an all-natural spa treatment at home. You can be even more confident that the natural skin care products you are using will actually work and you can feel even better about what your putting on your skin.
