A first date is always stressful because you feel the need to make a great first impression. Learn what not to wear on a first date, and how you can really stun any man. Thanks to Laura Watson for the post! -aa

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he first date is the most nerve-racking point in any budding relationship. Each of you are forming opinions about each other in a variety of ways, and that’s why it’s so important to pick what you’re going to wear on that important day very careful; you don’t get a second chance at a first impression, as the old saying goes.

There are a few items of clothing that you’re going to be relying on to pull off a first date, whether it be a favorite dress or a blouse, but what are the things that you definitely shouldn’t be wearing on a first date, and have you been going wrong?

What You Should Be Avoiding In The Wardrobe.

If you’ve got something out to wear which looks like you’re going to be wearing it to a wedding is definitely to be avoided, unless you’re actually going to a wedding of course! (That would be a very peculiar first date.) Your best bet is to have a scout around the place that you’re going beforehand, especially if you don’t know it already, so that you don’t turn up in a beautiful dress when everyone else is sporting t shirts and jeans. While you don’t want to under-dress, overdressing is just as bad, so make sure you strike the right balance.

Don’t Neglect the Shoes.

Now let’s discuss shoes, because the last thing you want to be doing is stuttering down the street in heels that are so high they make you look more like a drunk giraffe than a sexy and sophisticated woman. Never forget that a first date can be unpredictable, especially if the guy is a little bit adventurous, so you may end up dancing, walking long distances or doing other things that just won’t suit your massive heels. Again, look for a balance and if you feel uncomfortable in something, remove it from your first-date locker.

Don’t Bother With That Geeky T Shirt Either.

What Not To Wear On A First DateIf you’re a bit of a computer geek like me, you’re likely to have a brilliant collection of geeky t-shirts in your drawers, but let me give you a bit of advice: don’t wear your favorite batman, superman or Big Bang Theory t shirt on any first date you have in life, ever. I’ve made that mistake once, when I thought I was dating a similar geeky man, however was shocked when he turned up in a very smart shirt and jeans combination, leaving me looking like a bit of a child.

[EDITOR’S NOTE: Abiola says, Be you! If you’re into geeky tees and your guy is too, then go for it!]

While any man who has a fit over what you’re wearing on a first date probably isn’t worth your time in the first place, we all know that first impressions really do matter, and you’ve got to give yourself the best chance of success in the volatile world we call dating.

Happy dating!
