He was my first poet! Langston Hughes was an American poet, novelist, and playwright whose African-American themes made him a primary contributor to the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. (Via Biography.com)
And he was a genius who co-created “Mule Bone” with my adopted Sacred Bombshell ancestor Zora Neale Hurston. Happy birthday, Mr. Langston Hughes! We thank you for your poetic scripture and we are grateful that you existed – and that your words exist.

Harlem aka The Dream Deferred Poem
BY LANGSTON HUGHES
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
