I’m on the super awesome @BetterTVShow today with lovely hosts @JDRoberto and @KristinaBehr talking about how to have a self-love weekend to recharge moving into the next season. This is good for your emotional, mental, and spiritual health whether you’re about #thehustle or home with your babies.

Let’s talk about Self-Care! Putting other people on your life or even your goals before yourself leaves you burned out and depleted. Everything didn’t make it to air, so I’m post the entire Weekend of You with recipes below. You can also watch the show. It airs on channels such as the Hallmark Channel, depending on where you live.

The airplane oxygen mask metaphor is real. If you don’t love, heal, and care for you first, you can’t do that for anyone else.

How to do a Self-Love, Self-Care, All for You Weekend

FRIDAY NIGHT 

  1. Kick off your weekend of you with a Permission Slip and a Self-Love Solo Dance Party! Turn off your phone and begin. Many of us don’t give ourselves permission to relax. If you need one, we can post a permission slips for you to sign. This weekend is all about you. If you can afford to maybe you can stay in a hotel for the weekend or maybe your partner and the kids can just respect Mommy’s weekend just for herself. This is healthy for them to see you care for yourself as much as you care for them.
  2. Put on some fun positive songs like Pharrell’s “Happy” and move your body. Now your fun and healing Weekend of You begins in the right mindset. Sacred Bombshell Hint – Buy your ingredients and healthy groceries the weekend before so that you can just relax. This entire weekend is designed to release your feel good hormones – endorphins, seratonin, dopamine. These are natural mood elevators.
  3. Have a Movies the Make Me Laugh Marathon. Laughter helps us relax and forget our troubles. It boosts the immune system, puts us in a positive mindset and releases endorphins. We all have our go to funny faves or you can try something new.

SATURDAY

All this weekend, I urge you to only put good things into your mind, body and spirit. Catch up with negative energy draining friends who need advice another time. Consider eating only healthy foods. This is good self-care.

Something that is healthy and good for us is my Guyanese Great Grandmother’s Healing Hot Chocolate. Cocoa raises serotonin so it’s a mood booster. Dark chocolate also reportedly has all kinds of health benefits.

DARK CHOCOLATE DRINK  (MOOD BOOSTER)

Prepare in a saucepan over not too high a flame. This yummy, healing, recipe is made with superfoods and is great for energy, digestion, and pleasure.

Ingredients for my Guyanese Great Grandma’s Healing Hot Cocoa

  • Dark chocolate powder or cacao powder
  • Coconut milk
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla
  • Ginger or turmeric for zing

CHANTING MEDITATION (RELAXATION & CENTERING)

Darken the room. Set your timer on your phone for 15 minutes. This is really transformative. Instead of chanting in ancient Sanskrit, we’re going to use good old English. The word LOVE is charged with the highest energy. After all we want to be loved and we want to love ourselves more. We’re making meditation both relaxing and fun. 

Chant:

  • LOVEEEEEEE.
  • I love myself!
  • Yum

Trust me — after you’ve done that chant for 15 minutes — which will seem like FOREVER if you’re new to meditation, you will be charged and ready to go.

TAKE CLEOPATRA’S HEALING BATH

That’s right! Very similar ingredients to the Healing Hot Chocolate but without the chocolate. This time you’re soaking in it. Lavender candles best for relaxation. Give yourself a restful foot massage — reflexology — or maybe journal your thoughts and just soak.

Ingredients:

  • Full fat milk or powdered milk
  • Epsom salt
  • rose petals and rose oil,
  • melted extra virgin coconut oil,
  • cinnamon
  • honey

SUNDAY

Barefoot stroll outdoors with your feet on earth, nature, sand, water, or warm stones. This is called grounding and earthing. The reconnection to nature is so important. Our ancestors didn’t have things beeping at them all day so it’s time to reconnect before getting back to your life. After this you can turn back on your phone.

Sacred Self-Care Quickies Anytime:

  • 30 minutes extra sleep,
  • Watch your posture at your desk, 
  • Single task vs multi task, or
  • Technology-free hour.
