Check this out! April is National Poetry Month, and APOOO is saluting poet’s all month long, and today is my day. They chose me because my novel Dare is about Maya, a jazz loving poet, who becomes a rapper. But guess who wrote all of Maya’s poetry and lyrics?

This is so cool! You can my APOOO link here.

And on the link below, you can listen to me read some of Maya’s poetry– my Maya, not Ms. Angelou. Oh– and if you happened to catch this week’s really nice article about me in Carib News (yay) there were a few errors. For example, it says that Maya Angelou is my mother in my head– NOPE– I have a perfectly wonderful mother and would NEVER say that. Sorry mom! The character in my novel says that Maya Angelou is her GODMOTHER in her head. Oy Vey!

APOOO Book Club asked me to record a poem from Dare for their National Poetry Month salute. Thanks Yasmin & APOOO. Here it is: a combo of two poems from my main character Maya Hope. But listen now, and if it sounds like I am lisping up a storm, it’s because it was sooooo early in the morning when I recorded that. Enjoy!
